A Bollywood Wedding- Chicago, Navy Pier.
After meeting Nidhi, Mr Khanna and Rishi during their very first consultation, it was immediately apparent to us that this wedding was going to be no less than a blockbuster bollywood night. Both Nidhi & Rishi have impeccable taste in everything (obviously since they chose us:-) Sid and I had started planning for this wedding around April of 2008, based on the information that we had at the time. Initially our plans were to do a story around their wedding with a lot more behind the scenes and reality-tv show type edit but Nidhi and Rishi were more keen on shooting a music video love story and I think so were we, especially after we heard their proposal story. As Rishi was narrating, I already had the visions/music playing in my head. A few weeks later we shot the video. It was a tough shoot lasting 10 hrs straight. Early morning we started off with their wedding outfits on chicago river and then Navy pier rooftop, boat trip around chicago and finally buckingham fountain for their proposal re-enactment scene. The shoot was such a success! and I couldn't thank Nidhi enough for wearing her wedding outfit. That dress weighs more than me:-) and you'll see scenes of her running with that. It looked amazing though :-)) I also have to thank Rishi for wearing his wedding suit on the hottest day. Natasha was the best assistant we could have. She gave us so many ideas and interesting details/insights about Nidhi & Rishi which helped us a great deal. An arm wrestling scene at the boat was an idea initiated by her and it turned out perfect, especially since we had the roughest boat ride ever. Mr Khanna almost had a accident and one of our huge steadicam batteries literally flew off and landed near Nidhi's feet. I was just hoping nothing else would go wrong..especially weeks before the wedding. But we all made it back to montrose harbour safe and sound. Our last scene was the re-enactment of the proposal at buckingham. You can see on the video but there is another scene before that which we haven't included. Rishi had arranged for a caricature artist at Navy Pier to sketch a picture of him, on his knees, proposing to Nidhi in front of Buckingham fountain. He had the sketch artist also look at the ring/box beforehand so he could sketch the details of the shape etc. A few days later Rishi had taken Nidhi out on a date to watch Cirque du Soleil, after the show he takes her to the same artist to get the sketch made and as the artist is making his final touches to the sketch, several people lined up curiously to look at the sketch which gets Nidhi very anxious. Rishi obviously stops her from seeing it and tells her to wait until later. They start heading out to buckingham fountain on what probably the most windiest night, with the fountain mist heading in one direction. To avoid the water splash, they moved to a covered tree spot, where he proposes to her as he get down on his knees and at the very moment she opens the sketch cover. .The Mehndi Night: This was held at the Khanna Residence. It was an evening full of entertainment. As Nidhi was getting her henna done, close family & friends danced the night out. Here's a short clip from the event.

The Sangeet Night: This was held at Ashyana Banquets. Some of Mr Khanna's very close friends hosted this party for the couple & what a magical night planned out by the couples friends/family members. The Kapoors/Khanna's had the evening packed with extravagant dances. Nidhi too had special solo dance for Rishi.
Sukhbir's Teaser: The Night before the wedding is when Sukhbir arrived in Chicago and we immediately got together in the evening at the Navy Pier Rooftop as we had planned to shoot a 25 sec teaser that would be shown on the reception night before his entrance. Sukhbir was a total surprise and none of guests were aware that he would be performing live at the reception. So Let's just say...700 guests were so excited to see him that we saw every person (of all ages) shaking a leg with this celebrity pop singer who specially flew down from dubai for Nidhi & Rishi's wedding reception.

The Wedding Ceremony: This was perhaps the most emotional of all the events. We saw the entire family getting teary eyed at least once throughout the wedding. Every time, I look over the footage, my eyes are red especially when I see Mr Khanna crying during the vidaai. Both looked gorgeous and had chosen the best location in chicago to get married. The rose themed decor by Kehoe looked stunning. But the baraat was my highlight, this is when we had a huge crows of Kapoors dancing away to meet the Khanna's and i'm trying to squeeze into the crowd to get my shots, well somehow my sandal straps gets caught up and i fall flat on my face. Yes! it was painful and embarrassing.. as the dholi guy stopped playing and everyone go so worried. I was fine in a few minutes or so but I saw my LCD panel was broken. Thankfully we always have back-up camera. Later on our associate videographer, Jimmy also fixed the LCD screen so we were able to shoot with all the cameras.

The Wedding Reception: Sukhbir Rocked! it was just amazing how 700 guests were just crowded around the stage for the entire time he was performing live. All of us just had a blast!! Especially the jib operator, Mark. He hadn't seen anything like that before. You can see Sukhbir performing to one of his biggest hits 'Dil Kare'.
